Still Here, Still Going.

It's been a really long time since I posted a blog. I mostly just do Facebook because it's much faster, but there is something very therapeutic about writing a blog.
I am so excited for the holidays this year! I am having fun being crafty with making gifts and baking in the kitchen. I just love finding new recipes and trying to improve my inner Rachel Ray.

Weston has decided to be a vegetarian like me, it's very sweet how he loves animals and is trying to tell everybody about it. Such a sweetheart. Weston is at the top of his preschool class this year, he is very ready for kindergarten.

Wyatt is doing OK with his diabetes. He's had a few dramatic lows from time to time, but nothing like an emergency. He's very good about his injections also, getting to be such a big boy. He's really blossoming socially, he lets us drop him off at Sunday school and is totally fine with it! The boys will be having their birthdays next month...the time has flown by.

We are still waiting on the CHP letter for Matt. We are hoping for a class invite ASAP!

Matt and I just celebrated our seven year anniversary on Monday! We have been through so much, but through it all we are (of course!) still madly in love. =)
We are going to be doing our first over night trip since Wyatt was diagnosed. I'll try to be brave! We are going to Chico on the bike because Matt finally got his license!! I LOVE riding on the back as a passenger, it is so much fun. Something new all the time, life is too wonderful to be boring =)

Well, we are still waiting for the letter in the mail for Matt...it will come soon I hope! It will be a bittersweet day when that letter comes for me, I will miss him terribly. It will be so great though, CHP needs people like him.

Wyatt got started back on his once a day insulin yesterday. He seems to be doing really well now. His numbers were on the high side for a while there. He is such a little angel, when I give him his injection he says "thank you Mommy" My boys remind me that everyday is a gift.

Nothing to hide

Have so much on my mind lately, and no where to spill it...so here it is, on "paper" so to speak. I'm done fitting in with the world, I'm done being scared of what others think...and this is what's on my mind...

Perception- I have always been very loud to those who know me well, and very quiet to those who don't. This is very typical of someone who likes to observe, rather than being heard. Who has opinions, but doesn't think that everyone needs to know what they are... OR is afraid of being hurt, and I was. But this life is a one time around deal, and I'm done being afraid. I feel like each and everyday I am becoming who I want to be, and feel better and better each day.

Art- There are so many things I want to do! I would love it if everyday was painting, drawing, and creativeness...all day long. It's not. But I do try to squeeze it in anyway I can. I do it for me. I don't expect people to like it, let alone buy it...but by some miracle they do, and I'm extremely grateful for that. I wish I could paint things as I see them in my head, they never come out the way I want them, but that is why I love it, because it challenges me to get better. Not to make better art, but to better unveil what's in my thoughts.

Matt- My best friend, my partner, my husband. I love him to pieces...I hope he will get that letter calling him to the CHP academy very soon. He wants it so much, so I want it for him. It will be painfully lonely with him gone all week, week after week for 6 months, but it will all be worth it when he helps that first person on the highway.

Wyatt- He has his moments of orneriness and sweetness. Very much a two year old. His diabetes is becoming routine, and it doesn't consume my thoughts anymore, like it used to. I do what I need to do to keep his blood sugars the way they are supposed to be, and feed him the way I should...and love him as Wyatt.

Weston- He wants be a good boy, he wants to be a strong boy, he is all BOY! He destroys pine cones, sings funny songs, and loves with all his heart. My kids are the best...

Living arrangements- I am so glad to be out of the duplex and living here with my mom and Bill. They are amazingly supportive and understanding. We all need people like that in our lives, I'm so truly blessed. It is a huge burden that has been lifted.

My purpose- I had a salon, I did it, I was successful. But that's not what God had planned for me, it's just not what the calling for my life is. I started to feel that, I prayed about it...a lot. It was revealed to me quite plainly that the shop "wasn't important" I didn't really know what that meant until Wyatt had been diagnosed with diabetes not even two weeks later. I do not have all the answers, I hardly have any. But what I do know is that the Lord is hard at work in our lives. I am not angry or sad, I am grateful that each day we have the chance to make a difference in the lives around us. Jesus is my savior, and if that makes me unpopular, than so be it.

I just wanted to update everyone on Wyatt, it has been awhile since my last post. I was waiting on things to settle down a bit, but that may not happen for some time now, so I'm writing anyway! The doctors told me today that they want him off insulin for a few days, possibly for several months because of the honeymoon phase. That is when the body uses up all its stored natural insulin that it has left. What this means is I have to watch him even closer for signs of off balance blood sugar and test those levels 8-10 times a day. Wyatt doesn't even seem to mind that stuff anymore, he's a trooper... He is starting to talk a lot more and he is getting tall!

Weston's soccer is going really well, he loves to play. It is fun for us too watch too.Weston likes to help with Wyatt's testing too, he is such a big boy about it all. We are so proud of both of our little guys...

I have two more days of packing and cleaning, and then we will be completely moved out of our "old blue house" as Weston calls it. I can't wait to be done!

I've been starring at this blank "new post" page for a few minutes now, not knowing what to say... Last week, as most of you know, Wyatt was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It was scary, and wonderful. Let me explain...

Wyatt had been so fussy, just continuously begging for sippy cups filled with milk, he would cry for sometimes and hour when I would put him down for a nap. He wanted to be held all the time and never wanted to eat meals with the rest of us. He would just pick at food here and there. After talking with my mom about his sippy cup habit, I looked online for advice from other moms on bottle dependency...which led me to a website asking "Is your toddler drinking too much?...signs of type 1 diabetes..." I started to worry, even told Matt about it that night. But convinced myself that I was worrying too much. He is two after all, they can be fickle!

A few days later, We went to Sacramento for the evening, and my mom was watching the boys...Wyatt wouldn't go to sleep, and had thrown up. When we picked him up at midnight, he was still awake with my mom and Bill in the living room. We took them home and he stayed up crying almost the whole night, when he wasn't crying he was lying there not being able to fall asleep. He threw up again twice, so we called Hanh, my step mom. She suspected diabetes as well, so after an unofficial checkup from her, we went to the ER at Mercy that Saturday morning. His blood sugar was well over 500. They quickly confirmed our worry of diabetes. That was one of those slow motion moments in your life when you know things will never be the same, and there is no going back. I flew down to UC Davis with Wyatt in the jet, and we arrived about 5pm. Where he got started on an insulin drip and fluids in the Ped ICU. From then on, lots of dazed and confused question and answer sessions, queasy feelings of watching them taking blood and restraining my son.

Once the initial wave of shock was over, Matt and I had to cram every bit of knowledge into our heads as we possibly could about Type 1. It was all so confusing and complicated. I am not what you call a number's person, and with diabetes, it is definitely a numbers game...so it took a while for it all to make sense.
Then Wyatt started feeling so much better, he was riding around on a car all over his floor, the nurses were getting a kick out of his silly personality. Every time they would come in his room, he would immediately say "all done". He was so cute. We eventually made it home on Tuesday.
There is so much planning, checking the clock, calling the doctor, and constant monitoring that we realized me working at the salon wasn't going to fit in with our new way of life. So as of Saturday the 27th, I will be closing All Tangled Up. It is a little disappointing, because I worked so hard to build my business, but my boys and their health, are of course more important. Since I will not be bringing in any significant income, we will also be moving to my mom and Bill's house. I feel really great about being able to concentrate on Wyatt's needs without the financial stress. We were planning on making this move when Matt got into the academy, so it's just a little sooner then planned, but not totally unexpected. I can also focus on my artwork, and try to get more pieces done so that when the opportunity presents itself, I can be in more art shows.
Wyatt will spend his whole life as a diabetic, but it will be all he knows, he is so young that this will just be the way it has always be, which does give me some comfort.

The wonderful, beautiful part in all of this, at this was God's plan, he knew this would be a struggle in our lives, even in the high stress day of flying him down to Davis, I just kept praying and praising our Father. He is so good. This is nothing he can't handle, and is leading us on this path for ways we cannot see. But I can honestly say, I am excited for the future and what He has planned for our family. I am letting Him show me what to do and walking boldly through these doors that He has opened .

Update on Wyatt

Wyatt is doing great, he is playing and eating and laughing =) It's such a relief to see him acting somewhat close to his normal behavior. He is still pretty groggy from all the action from yesterday and today, but over all, he is really doing very well.

The specialists will be meeting with us tomorrow to teach us how to take care of his needs. We have a lot to learn... We might be going home Tuesday, still not sure.

Wyatt at UC Davis

As many of you know, Wyatt has been diagnosed with Stage 1 Juvenile Diabetes. He was atmitted at Mercy Hospital at noon yesterday after showing strong symptoms... insomnia, severe increase in thirst, throwing up. We were then were flown to UC Davis by fix wing after comfirming our suspitions. He was then able to recieve the insalin he needed, and is now stablized and his numbers are where they need to be. Thank you so much for all of your love, prayers, and support at this difficult time, Wyatt is doing great now so, try not to worry, and we will keep everyone updated as we move out of ICU and eventually back home in a few days.

Wyatt and Weston's Birthday Party was loads of fun! Thank you so much, for those of you who were able to make it!!! The boys LOVED their gifts, and especially loved having their special friends and family there to share it with them. It was a busy weekend for many and others were sick, but I think the boys are so little still they just know they had a great time and loved all the attention! Weston helped me make the cupcakes and their individual cakes, he loves to help in the kitchen, so sweet :) Wyatt is officially two now. I was teary the night he was actually two, after 10pm on Dec. 7th. He's such a big boy now, but no matter how much he grows, he'll always be my little boy! Weston thinks he's four now even though his birthday's not until the 22nd. I think we'll just let him keep thinking that, it's confusing having your birthday party and then your real birthday later on. These are just a few of the pictures from the party, enjoy! Matt finally got a call from CHP! His background investigation is complete, after several months of waiting. He took a 500 question psych test on Tuesday, as part of the final procedure for getting hired. He goes to a psychologist in a few weeks to go over his answers and in the beginning of December, get a medical exam...and that's it. The waiting is almost over, we are so excited!

I know it's been a long time since I have blogged...sorry!

We have been one busy family! As you know Weston started preschool and LOVES it, he has a lots of friends and is really enjoying getting into the "school" routine. His best little buddy at school is Parker which is actually the son of my best friend in high school, so cute! He's also getting into painting like his mommy as you can see from his painted models of a car and jet.

Wyatt favorite word is, of course, "no" but a few days ago, he has started to form little two word sentences which is exciting. His big brother talks so much that I think he just doesn't think he needs to speak! He has been getting lots of teeth in the past few weeks and has a big toothy smile now :)

Matt is still waiting to hear from CHP, the background check is very thorough, and its taking a really long time...in the meantime he has picked up a couple shifts a few at Cattlemen's Restaurant as a buser to bring in some extra money, we have really out grown the duplex we've been in since Weston was 8 months old! We are trying to get into a bigger place to stretch out a bit!

My salon has been pretty steady with business, but as you know the economy is still down and am still in need of new clients. But I have my boys there with me most of the time and I don't get bored! At home I have been making necklace pendants for fun out of postage stamps, I cut the glass and solder it all together, very fun! (like the picture above) and was given the project of making a set of paintings for our church, and of course, am thrilled to be painting on such a regular basis! so I've been keeping busy...

I will be updating this more often, I promise!

From the drive down to our way back and everything in between was absolutely wonderful!!! We spent the first day with my Wes and Bridget at there place then went down together to Monterey on Monday and had pretty much the best day ever :) Then we drove down together to visit Laura and Adam in Cambria, again a wonderful, fabulous day!

Update on CHP :)

Father's Day was a nice relaxing day except for the fact Matt knew he had his CHP interview the next morning, but he did well and will be getting called back in probably in the the next week or two for more tests and questions. Looks like if he is accepted he would be entering the academy no sooner than December, so we will most definitely be here for at least one more year. Good news for those of you who like me as your hairstylist!

Earlier this week Wes and Bridget were here a few days, they climbed Mt. Shasta all the way to the tip top, and now they are in Idaho visiting Bridget's family with a new Honda Civic. Wes's car was on it's last leg so he bought one while he was in Redding. We went to go see Sue the T-Rex at Turtle Bay, it was really neat, you should go if you get a chance! Matt finally heard from CHP, he has a another interview on June 22nd, after that I think things move very quickly so we should know more about what's going on with that very soon! Matt and I are going to Ashland this weekend for our six year wedding anniversary, I'm looking forward to peace and quiet and sleeping in!

We went to Anderson River Park at 8 am this morning, it was beautiful! There was no one there and the birds were ready for breakfast :) Wyatt kept chasing after this lone white duck (video at the bottom) and both boys had a wonderful time! OH, my. I'm in trouble, I am having too much fun with my camera. Matt may start getting worries our computer might explode with too many picture files. But I can't say how happy I am with the pictures I've been able to take, mainly because of one reason...the detail. I was never able to capture Wyatt's different colored eyes (one is half blue, the rest is green) It was impossible to zoom in enough clearly to see them with the last one. It makes mommy happy!

AND Weston is my wiggly model, so now I can get clear pictures of him w/o the flash and still have a good pictures. Usually when I try to take natural light picture it was always a little too blurry.

Matt and I are going to Best Buy today when he gets home from work and getting a new camera! The one I have, I mean, had, got busted up between purse abuse and three year old curiosity. BUT, we paid for a warranty that allows us to get it replaced for free if they can't repair it. So....new camera, new camera, whoo hoo!

Lots going on right now, Matt and I are very busy! My shop has picked up probably 20% since the restaurant opened a few months ago. I have been open for one year now! I still can't believe it. I remember in the first couple weeks I was open I didn't do one haircut for 3 days. 8 hours in the shop, three days. Now I have enough customers to keep me busy and the people that are my regulars love the fact that I bring my boys to work. You do what you can to make things work, and right now this works :) I want to thank those of you who have supported us through encouragement, prayer, and/or becoming my client!

We are still in suspense about the CHP background check, we are anxious to find out the whens and whats on this whole thing. We should know pretty soon.

Wyatt is babbling SO much right now, his favorite word is "light" and he can tell you where they are and how to turn them on and off.

Weston is growing up so fast, he eats everything I give him to eat (which used to be a big battle) and is way into coloring (which makes mommy very happy!)

We are planning our anniversary trip to Ashland at the end of this month, I'm so excited! I love to travel, especially somewhere I've never been before. ( If anyone has any suggestions on what to do or where to go there, let me know) We are seeing McBeth at the Shakespeare Festival, other than that, nothing concrete.

Easter weekend was a blast! From flying candy to tricycle races to frosting face clowns, we did it all. And I'm a little behind putting up pictures, these are actually from my sister's and mom's camera. I still haven't gotten the ones from my camera, but something tells me this is enough Easter pictures :)

On Sunday after the boys had there naps, we drove to Chico for a little road trip. I have the book "If" It's basically a list of questions people can ask each other. One of the questions was

"If you could have one outfit from any movie, which would you take?"

I said the white sparkly dress Audrey Hepburn wore in "My Fair Lady"

it's beautiful and worth lots of money, makes sense to me.

This is a "Cline thing" that somehow found its way to my child. He has been doing this for a long time, he always wants to color with his feet, pick up toys, put a fork between his toes...etc.

I've always been able to pick things up with my toes, no problem. My sister and brother always did it to and I never really thought much of it. Apparently this is weird? Does anyone else do this? How much easier to clean up the living room floor if you don't have to bend over to pick up the little stuff?!

Weston is super adorable, yes....but taking his picture is difficult! He gives you this big cheese face, or looks away from the camera OR holds toys in front of his face when you try to take a picture of him by himself. Now, if you hold him to take his picture, it's a different story. He's as charming as ever. Looks right at the camera, sweet smile, all that. So, here are pictures with mommy :)

Wyatt slept in Weston's room last night for the first time! I was filled with nostalgia last night because my sister and I grew up sharing a room. There were cat fights, yes, but mostly a great sisterly friendship that only seems better as we grow older. One of the fun memories I have of sharing a room is when Laura and I used to pretend to be asleep on Saturday mornings because that was when my mom would have us do the weekly-type chores like pairing socks and watering the trees...torture! So we would pretend to still be asleep and then giggle when she was done peeking into our room :) Sorry Mom!

How to save money. Part 1

I did not grow up learning about how to save money. Matt has taught me so much about how to do this, once you get in the mind set of how to get the most out of your money, it really is fun!

I don't have a pile of money laying around somewhere, but I have learned how to NOT overspend and still have a great time doing it!

A few things on Shopping:

I LOVE to shop. Shoes, clothes, whatever...Love it! The best feeling is to go find a bargin, not the best and most expensive. So..

1.Go STAIGHT to the clearence rack, don't even peek at the regular prices clothes. Chances are you will find an idem you love at a super cheap price. It's all about the hunt have fun and almost make it a game. Don't buy anything you won't wear, but finding a shirt of pair of jeans you can wear again and again, without the guilt of knowing you overpaid! If you find an idem that has a tiny spot or button missing or something like that, ask the cashier for a lower price on it. (something easy to fix) They will give it to you almost everytime, if not don't buy it. It never hurts to ask. And don't be afraid to return, keep your recipts.

2. Buy in the off season. I just bought two skirts, one for $4 (regularly $27) and the other for $7 (regularly $35) I'm set for summer for $11.

3. Shoes are the best. Payless Shoe store is hit and miss, but that's kind of the point. If you found something every time, you'd be broke. If you find a cute pair of shoes that fit but aren't that comfortable, buy the gel insoles. The shoes that have the comfy insoles "built -in" are usually not the most attractive and they are very expensive. I stand on my feet all day for a living, but I refuse to wear ugly shoes! (and spend too much money!)

4. Buying a gift. This can be tricky. If you are good at making things, do that. Use your skills and personalize it. If not, TJ Maxx is your best bet. They have everything from framed pictures, books, kitchen gadgets, and home decor. Buying a girt for under $9 is a piece of cake there.

The Vittles Restaurant is finally open! They have been working on it for ages, everyday I watched them add a little here, a little there, but it never seemed like they were making much progress. But last week I got excited because after yet another visit from the fat man with the clipboard (building inspector) they had a sign on the door that they were "now hiring". About 100 people applied and things started to look really promising. After truck loads of food came and the windows got washed, they finally had their first day OPEN yesterday. Why do I care? I need the foot traffic! I'm mostly a walk-in hair shop, so a busy street is extremely beneficial.

Matt and some other people (you know who you are) want me to cut Wyatt's hair. Um, not going to happen. I'm the one with the scissors remember?

Matt is doing amazing with his eating healthy/ getting in shape. I've even got him drinking hot tea (my fav) instead of sugary drinks.

I'm still waiting to see pictures from the other ladies on our wild scavenger hunt, we earned those pictures, let's see'm!

My sissy is coming up for Easter! I'm so excited to see her again.(the boys miss their "Wora")

Did I mention that Wyatt is now on milk? Our family goes though about a gallon every day and a half. Amazingly still cheaper than formula. And much less annoying.

This weekend's weather is going to be crappy. Why oh why? On the sunny days I always have to work!

There is a pair of jeans I have that sit on the the dryer for long periods of time. They are the jeans I wear when I have absolutely nothing left to wear. Well, I forgot to put my load of pants into the dryer so the only choice I had, besides a skirt (which is not going to happen in 40 degree weather) was that pair of jeans on the dryer. They used to fit OK until I lost the last few pounds back a couple of months ago. The waist is too big, but the thigh and length are great. So what does my dear husband say to me when we are out at Outback celebrating his birthday? "So, the waist is too big?...Well, if the rest of the pants fit well, then your thighs are too big." How romantic.

Starting Friday night, Matt and I have had the best weekend! Lots of reading my novel with cup of tea, and things like that. One of those great weekends that you just hate going back to reality. Yesterday, after the boys took their nap (at the same time, blissful!) we decided to do something fun and spontaneous and headed to Chico for the rest of the day! Matt and I love road trips, however small they may be. We ate at the Burger Hut in Chico and it was soooo good. They have great turkey burgers, and it's a build-your-own, so it's exactly the way you like it. Thanks to Mike I get to continue my wonderfully long weekend with Matt, he closed the office today. I wonder where today will take us?!

Matt and I were at my brother's house in Dublin for the weekend. Lots of just hanging out and relaxing, even slept in on Sunday until 9:30! And of course watching the Superbowl and eating way to much yummy food. I really started to miss my boys on the last day , but I did love getting out of town and doing something different and seeing my siblings ( I get to missing them a lot too!) The boys and I had a great time on Monday, playing in the park & spending some cuddle time together :)

Big changes coming our way....

Matt passed his interview on Thursday! (the hardest part) There is a waiting period in the next step of the process, three months, so we are going to practice patience and enjoy this time that we will have together as a family. There are other papers and a few more tests go through and if all that goes OK, then he will be on his way to the academy. The class he is hoping to get in is June, which will put him graduating in December. We are very excited for the new changes coming our way, though it will be difficult. The academy is extremely challenging mentally and physically, but he's up for it! (I wouldn't make it three minutes there before I burst into tears and begged to go home)

I cut Wyatt's hair yesterday. I was trying to make him look younger by cutting it because he had short hair when he was a baby, and of course it didn't work. I've been a hairstylist for seven years, I should know better. But, he does look very handsome and there are some curls left. The haircut resulted in a tearful conversation with my husband (me of course being the one crying) Oh well, lesson learned.

I LOVE little babies! Nathan & Julie's little Ruby is crazy adorable! Whenever my boys get to about the "one-year-old" stage I crave the newborn cuteness....We went over to their home Wednesday and had clam chowder and crab....yum! (thanks you guys!)

Friday was the annual Christmas Party for the kids at Kristen's house, (Kristen has a little bitty baby, only 4 months ans I got to hold him for a little bit and make him giggle!)
Santa comes in the house with all the presents for the kids and they get so excited! Weston is nuts about Christmas this year, it's so fun with a three year old and a one year old this time! Wyatt starred at Santa and then wanted him to pick him up :)

One more thing that is pretty big news is that Matt is going to try to get into the California Highway Patrol. I have talked to most of you about this, but a brief sum-up of this decision is that he feels like this is God's Plan for us, and this will give him a chance to help people and make a difference. His application was approved and he has passed his written exam. The Physical test is next which he should breeze by and the psychology test then the panel interview. If he passes all that then he will be in the academy for 6 months in Sacramento and then would be placed anywhere from LA to Chico and anywhere inbetween. But we are just taking one step at a time...
I am very proud of him, and am excited for the changes (hopefully!) coming our way.

my Biggest Loser sum up

Let me just start out by saying....Yeah! I'm SO glad Michelle won last night! (Biggest Loser is a reality weight loss competition, and the finale was last night) She looked AMAZING!

I was a little disappointed in some of those men that could have lost a ton of weight at home and easily taken home the second prize $$. (like L.T. and Tom) The biggest transformations that just made my jaw drop were both of the Amys, the looked so beautiful! Did anyone else notice "blond Amy" was about the only person they didn't talk to live on the show?

Even though I didn't really care for Heba in the beginning of the season, I felt bad for her not competing in the top three, she did a great job loosing weight at home. Vicki lost to Ed by one pound...Hah! She deserved that, she was so mean to everyone, even her husband, on the ranch. Nothing good can ever come from being that sour all the time.

The dress of the host Allison was really weird, the green crushed velvet and half-your-bra-showing-look is really not a good look. Their are PLENTY of things she could have worn to look "sexy pregnant" other than that. (Sorry had to be fashion police for a sec)

VERY ODD PICTURE SIZE AND PLACEMENT, SORRY!

It has been forever since I posted, I know, but our internet was not working. It actually turned out to be the phone line out on the street that was the problem, anyways...! I am so excited to be back crusin' the internet and blogging! Wy Wy is running everywhere now, and has three teeth coming in on the top right now. I'm trying to sort through my brain for all the fun stuff I've been waiting to share only a few things come to mind...A few nights ago we were all sitting and playing in the living room and I joked with Weston "wipe that smile off your face!" and he frantically started licking his lips thinking there was something "on his face", it was so cute , Matt and I were cracking up. Another silly thing was when Weston and I were in the mall jewelry store and Weston was chatting up all the ladies in there when he started telling them about how Mommy was going to get Weston a pretzel...except it sounded like "pistol", and the woman was a little shocked and asked Weston, "Oh, um what are you going to do with a pistol?!" and Weston just said "put it in my mouth!" (thinking she was talking about his yummy pretzel!)... Yikes!
